Entitled: Clovis Mann-Child (or "Using the Saga of Shawn Kemp as a Foil for our Band")

Remember when Shawn Kemp first burst into the scene NBA, shattering rims and thunderously dunking on the Mike Gminskis and Kelly Trapuckas of the world? (If you aren't a basketball fan just stay with me on this one) They called him the Man Child because he was revolutionary, one of the first players drafted out of high school, a genetically freaky combination of size, strength, speed, and bad 80's fade haircut. He'd jump from the free throw line, dunk on you with his sack in your face, knock you bloody onto the parquee floors, and point and laugh at you as the PA announcer would shriek his nickname: "Man Child"...only 18...the most exciting phenom in the NBA. He even kicked ass in NBA Jam. Unfortunately for Shawn Kemp, with thunderous dunking power comes thunderous responsibility. In a few, scant years he became a reckless drunk, knocking up 17 women, becoming fifty pounds overweight, and eventually the twelfth man on the Cleveland Cavaliers of all teams, spending his small paycheck on Wild Turkey and child support. Even Shawn Kemp couldn't handle all the raw talent he possessed. But for that brief moment, way back in the beginning, Shawn Kemp made the average person dream that "Man Child" could do things no other human in the history of mankind could ever do. And even beyond what he became, just being able to dream about that made the tragic aftermath all seem worth it.

Now, I don't want to compare ourselves to a young Shawn Kemp, but I do want you to help us on our path of knocking up women and becoming overweight alcoholics. Clovis Mann is in the category of "Best New Artist" for the Madison Area Music Awards (The MAMAs). If you like us a lot, please vote for us. The one catch is it takes $5 to register with the MAMA but the money goes to MAMA, Inc. a non-profit organization that honors the accomplishments of musicians in the Madison area and also raises awareness and funds for youth music programs. And here's the deal, if you vote for us, let us know, we can get you a cd or in for free to one of our gigs! Go here http://www.themamas.org/ and send us on our way to Wild Turkey and wilder women.

Speaking of gigs:

Tomorrow we're playing at Mr. Robert's (Thursday, January 12th). Be there. We start at 10. There's no cover, but there is the Clovis Mann-Beast playing bludgeoningly awesome rock & roll for ya. It'll be like a "Man Child" dunk.

Friday we're at the Kick Back in Maintowoc WI. So if you're walking the streets of Manitowoc looking for something to do, stop on in.

Saturday we're at the Main Stage in Waukesha, playing third on a bill of three.

And Sunday, we'll rest.

--The Mann

UPDATE:

The gigs went awesome, and the weirdest thing is a dude at the Waukesha gig was wearing Shawn Kemp signature Reebok's circa 1997. The universe is aligned!
