Lasting thoughts: Freedom, it’s a word that gets thrown around a lot these days, but it’s also the reason why I love playing with these guys. Now let me relate a historical tale: back in the 70s, all bass players the world round decided to only play root quarter notes. Unfortunately this horrible affliction, ignored by popular culture and the world of medicine, is still with us today. Luckily for me, I got in with the right bunch of guys so that playing root quarter notes ad naseum just wouldn’t fly. No sir. In fact they like it when I play bizarre-o and solo continuously, and that’s what I like doing too. But it even goes beyond that. It even goes beyond Ethan taking shots while hammering away in the middle of an awesome drum solo or Dan heaving his prized guitar into the audience after we nailed a song. Everybody in this band gets to play whatever they want, and so far, that has been all that matters.
